  • Victoria Elementary Staff Welcomes New Students to the

    2016-17 School Year!

Class lists are posted on Friday, August 26 and August 29  from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m..  On August 26, parents are welcome to visit  and familiarize their student(s) with our campus.  School hours are from 7:40 a.m. to 2:05 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Every Wednesday is staff collaboration day with students being released at 12:50 p.m.  Students that ride the bus will arrive home early on Wednesdays (the same amount of time it usually takes to get home riding the bus on regular days).  In addition, 4 minimum days are scheduled and the students are released at 11:15 a.m.  This information is included in your parent packet that will accompany your child home on the first day of school.  Also included in the packet are 3 forms for parents to complete, sign and return (Student Residency Questionnaire, Victoria Parent Handbook receipt and Riverside Unified School District "School Information for Students and Parents' Handbook and Mandatory Receipt for 2016-17 school year").  Please note the Mandatory Receipt includes check boxes allowing students to access the internet for educational purposes, media release and publishing student work.  Explanations for each are included on the form .  Parents and guardians, please make every effort to return the signature packet on the very next school day.  Our Victoria PTO will include information in the packet about how parents/guardians can get involved and help make your school a better place for your children to learn.  If each parent could only volunteer 2 hours a year, it would make a huge difference in the lives of your student.

Each month a Victoria newsletter is sent home with a wealth of information on upcoming events and tips/ideas to help your student be successful in school.  You may also view our school website that contains an online Calendar of Events and other interesting information.  The easiest way to access our website is to go to the Riverside Unified School District website, School Locator or you may use this link/address

For the safety and security of our students, please make it a priority to sign in  and get a visitor badge in the office when you enter the campus during school hours.  Equally important is to sign out when you leave.  In the event of an earthquake, fire, disaster or emergency, the administration needs to know who is visiting our campus and if they are still present.  Please do not sign out until you actually leave.

We look forward to meeting you on Back to School Night!

Students from Ms. Sugden's, Mrs. Zeeb's  and Mrs. Connor's class made Valentines for our veterans.  Congressman Mark Takano came to school to personally receive the Valentines from our students.  While here, Mr. Takano thanked students who were part of the project and told them how much our veterans appreciate receiving their cards.  In addition, Mr. Takano took time to answer students' questions about his job:
Q:  How long does it take to fly to Washington?
A:  "About 5 hours" (He then showed the route on a classroom map -- to which the student replied, "That's a tiny plane.")
    Q:  What is your job?
A:  "My job is to make laws.  I'm working on one this week about kids.  One of the reasons I became a Congressman was to help kids."
Q:  Have you met the president?
A:  "Yes."  He later added, "I've been invited to parties at the White House." (Kids then responded: "Oooo!")
Before Mr. Takano left, he complimented the children on their listening skills, adding, "You have been better behaved than members of Congress!"

We hope your summer was restful and everyone is excited to return to school.  School starts on August 25 from 7:40 a.m. - 2:05 p.m., except on Wednesdays all students are released at 12:50 p.m. for teacher collaboration time. Please take the opportunity this school to volunteer at least one hour of time to your child's school.  If every parent volunteered one hour, that would be about 600+ hours helping make our school an even better experience for your/our students.  Of course, parents are always welcome to volunteer as much as they would like.  In September, we will host a Volunteer Orientation and all parents are welcome to attend.  At the orientation, volunteers are shown how to use the school office equipment, should the need arise.  Volunteers working more than 4 hours per week are required to have a TB test and fingerprinting by the Department of Justice.
